Passat 2019 Facelift

The new, facelifted Passat has been revealed ahead of its official unveil at the Geneva Motor Show, with a number of exciting new features.

With nearly 30 million units sold to the public so far in its lifetime, the 2019 Passat will be the first Volkswagen to offer ‘Travel Assist’ – semi-automated driving at cruising speed. This new feature works in conjunction with smart adaptive cruise control, will analyse and respond to speed limits, corners and junctions and operates at speeds of up to 130mph.

The new Passat will also be the first brand model worldwide with a capacitive steering wheel. This detects touch by the driver, providing an interactive interface to systems such as Travel Assist.

The car also includes Emergency Steering Assist, increasing safety with the capability of performing evasive manoeuvres through braking.

These changes will be combined with the addition of IQ.LIGHT – LED matrix headlights, which have only featured on Touareg so far.

The ‘always on’ infotainment system has an integrated SIM-card, and will allow customers to connect their iPhones wirelessly to Apple CarPlay for the first time. Other features include the integration of music streaming services, internet radio, voice control and the use of smartphones to unlock and start your car.

Engines

The range of the Passat has also been bettered, with big improvements coming to the GTE hybrid line, now capable of around 34 miles on pure electric. That’s around 12 miles more than the current GTE.

Conventional petrol and diesel options return. The Passat’s petrol line will range from 148PS up to 268PS, with diesel options producing between 118PS and 237PS.

Efficiency has also been improved with the introduction of exhaust-particulate filters, allowing the car to produce approximately 10g/km less C02 emissions than before.

The 2019 Passat will be open for order in the summer.
